Dean Goodson of Little Rock: Three Ways to Improve Your Swimming Technique

Dean Goodson, a navy veteran based in Little Rock, Arkansas, knows that there are many ways to improve your swimming technique in order to compete, including tips such as the following:

·         Pay attention to swimming on your sides instead of focusing on your chest and stomach. By engaging all of your back and shoulder muscles, you will improve your speed and agility, rolling from side to side rather than lying flatly.

·         Consider using a nose clip so that you can relax while swimming and working on your speed without the discomfort of water in your nose.

·         To improve propulsion, focus on swimming with a high elbow, flexing the arm with the forearm facing backward for as long as possible.

·         Save energy where you can, like using a two-beat kick for both middle and long distances.
